Volkswagen Mechanic. Findlay, OH. January 19 2017.
We are (believe it or not) still on schedule, but we did realize that getting to Nashville from Detroit overnight wasn't going to happen with Gigi spluttering down the highway at half the speed of traffic. So we stopped in Toledo, Ohio to find a mechanic. The first was clueless about 1980s vanagons, the second was an elderly man with a breathtaking collection of vintage cars, well adorned in American memorabilia. He even had a DeLorean (!). But he was too busy. So we kept on keeping on down the I-75 at 70km/hr. Then we found it: a Volkswagen dealership in Findlay, Ohio. With the loveliest people ever.
While waiting for a fuel pump and fuel filter to be shipped from California, we stayed at a hotel across the road. And got to go swimming a lot earlier than we expected.
